Why not use Amazon SES yourself?

You can, and if you have an engineer who enjoys DNS records and AWS consoles, you should. The sending is cheap. Everything around it is what takes the week.

An AWS account and a production-access review

New SES accounts start in a sandbox that can only email verified addresses. Getting out means applying and explaining your sending.

DNS records on every domain

SPF, three DKIM keys and a DMARC policy, per domain, correct first time — a typo sends everything to spam without an error.

A pipeline for bounces and complaints

SES tells you about failures through SNS notifications. Something has to listen, suppress the addresses, and keep your rates low enough that AWS doesn't pause your account.

Nobody to ring

When an important customer says they never got the email, AWS support is not going to read your headers with you.

Will it work with my WordPress site?

Yes. Any SMTP plugin works — we set it up on sites we host and send the settings for sites we don't. WooCommerce, contact forms and membership plugins all send through it.

What happens if I go over my allowance?

Mail keeps sending. Extra emails are £1 per thousand on the next invoice, and if you go over every month we will tell you when the next plan up is cheaper.

Do I need to change my email provider?

No. This sends email from your website and apps; your normal inbox in Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 stays exactly as it is. We make sure the DNS records for both work together.

Where is the mail sent from?

Amazon SES in its London region, so delivery data stays in the UK.

Can I cancel?

Month to month, anytime. Your domains stay yours and the DNS records can be removed in a minute.
